Text project reflection

This project was the first one of the DCP specialism and it was all about settling in and experimenting without having a clear end of project goal. At first I wasn’t really inspired and just did a lot of different responses that were a bit all over the place mostly looking at the way the text is structured/put instead of focusing on what the text is about.

I started with the tasks we were given which did help me create some of my preferred responses such as marking every vowel in the text and then linking them up together and this response was the first one I was satisfied with making these weird structural shapes that looked interesting and pleasing to see. I kept on doing different responses and the one that I was satisfied with was recreating the text but only with the letter a so where the text was I would put a lot of ‘a’s together and I liked the way it turned out.

After that I focused more on what the text was about because I was running out of ideas for the shape of the text and so I did a little drawing of a lotus flower which turned out great and I also did a drawing inspired by the name “red thorn” which was in the text where I would put thorn all over the paper and proceed to circling in the shapes made by the thorn coring itself in red which became my favourite piece made for this project.

Over our 2 days off before the presentation I had to make some of my responses cleaner as the ones I made were quick and here just to see how the idea in my head would turn out in real life and so I redid the flower and the red thorn in a bigger piece of paper and while being more focused.
